Based on the novel La Dame aux Cameliasby Alexandre Dumas fils, its story of tragic love has captivated audiences for over 150 years. The opera was also the inspiration for the hit film Moulin Rouge. Musical highlights include the famous Act One ' drinking song' ( Libiamo ne'lieti Calici) and Violetta's beautiful farewell aria ( Addio del Passato) in Act Three. This traditional production of La Traviatasees the Compagnia d'Opera Italiana di Milano return to Malvern after the success of Toscalast year. The company has given some three thousand performances throughout Europe and will sing the opera in its original Italian ( with English surtitles) accompanied by full orchestra and chorus.
